Notes
Just wanted to comment on the part of the video where you talk about doing X because you want Y. I just want to add that there is also the "burnt out" factor. It turns something intrinsic to extrinsic. When humans are expected to produce like machines, when humans are exploited, even if a person happens to like doing X to begin with and Y is just icing on the cake--- but because doing X is no longer voluntary, instead the person is prescribed to do it and prescribed to produce a certain amount of output at a certain amount of hours (specially if it's inhumane amount of hours without a noble cause) --- it takes away the joy of doing X. The person is now doing X on someone elses terms, it's no longer intrinsically arising from the person. It's only a matter of time till that person start to learn hating doing X. I notice this a lot in the workforce. People who were once would happily do something without the Y incentive becomes so burnt out that they start hating what they used to love doing. You'd hear people say, "I don't know what happened to me, I used to love doing this, I used to spend insane amount of hours happily doing this. I even sought out opportunities to do this and volunteered my time, but now every fiber of my being hates it." I always say, it's because you've been exploited.
